School run by Wayne Glover; Level 1 qualified Surfing coach under the Surfing New Zealand, Surfing Australia and International Surfing Association recognition scheme.
Cost per person:
First Lesson $85.00
Subsequent Lessons: $60.00 per lesson.
Prices include GST
Duration of classes approximately 2 hours.


All lessons include surfboard and wetsuit hire. Or, participants can use their own equipment, if suitable.

Transport to the beach is not included but can be provided at a nominal additional cost relative to the beach used.

Water, food not included.

Class 5
Surf Safety, Surfing etiquette
Surfboard design and function
Entering and exiting the surf safely
Paddling and turning the board
Paddling through whitewater
Catching and riding broken waves (prone)
Develop riding broken waves standing up
Traversing left and right in broken waves.

Class 2
Carving turns and arcs
Maintaining position on the wave
Refine control as preparation for
tube riding.
Forehand and backhand re-entries.

Class 4
Catching unbroken waves
Standing with control while traversing.
Develop Basic forehand and backhand
turns, individually and in sequence.
Exiting the wave


Class 1
Develop radical turning.
Reliable re- entries
Side – slips
(Advanced) cut backs
Pull-outs
Late take-offs
Tube riding
Body leverage
Riding bigger waves
Class 3
Top and bottom turns
Cutbacks
Exiting the wave- alternate methods
Refine trimming
Climb and drop
 

Note:
1) Water safety and surfing etiquette form a part of every session as do warm ups and stretching exercises.

2) It is not necessary to do all classes. Some participants may already have basic skills, and some participants progress at a faster rate than others.

3) The program is designed so that participants can take the learnings from each class and practice on their own before taking the next class.

4) For those wishing to develop longboard surfing, additional techniques such as nose-riding, drop-knee turns with an emphasis on style are also introduced.
