To our Aotearoa Surf family and friends,

We consider you part of our family and your safety remains our highest priority. As such, we have decided to postpone all events until further notice for your own health and safety.

Please follow us on Facebook & Instagram for our 28 Days of Surf Lockdown!

We are ensuring ALL boards, paddle-boards, kayaks, wetsuits and rash-vests are washed thoroughly and with soaps, disinfectants and sanitiser to remove any possible germs both before and after each hire.

Should you be hiring or purchasing any equipment from us, we HIGHLY recommend avoiding any contact with others (that you are not already in contact with) whilst surfing. This includes surfing quiet, uncrowded breaks (please let us know if you are unsure where is best for this) as well as staying a minimum of 3 meters away from others when at the beach/ in the water.

As we are in isolation ourselves here at Aotearoa Surf, we have set up a system that allows you to complete the entire hire process without any direct contact with another person. This includes:

  • Choosing and book your equipment either online or via a phone call with us telling us of your needs & abilities (our number: 09 431 5760)
  • Making payment either online or via the phone
  • Picking up and dropping off the equipment from a special pick-up and drop-off location at our front gate.

We will be on site should you have any specific difficulties during this process, however will be ensuring a safe distance at ALL times.

As part of its response to managing the COVID-19 outbreak the New Zealand Government announced on Saturday 14 March 2020 further border measures. These include extending travel restrictions and self-isolation requirements for most people arriving into New Zealand. These restrictions will be reviewed after 16 days.

If you are healthy, fit and already in New Zealand however, there are plenty of recommendations on getting outdoors and into the sun, see our next point!

For the latest information visit the immigration New Zealand website

Guidelines for self-isolation can be found on the New Zealand Ministry of Health’s website.

Being on the ocean, exposed to Vitamin D and negative ions is the one of the better immune-building activities you can engage in. Research supports that exposure to negative ions can promote antimicrobial activity, can have an activating influence on some body systems and cognitive performance, and can reduce symptoms of depression for some people. Escape the stress and give your mental health a boost while catching some waves on one of New Zealand’s most incredible coastlines. It really does help put things in their proper perspective.

We’re so proud of our entire Aotearoa Surf team’s resilience to these uncertain times as well as all that they do to deliver amazing experiences. Trust that they will continue to serve you in health-sustaining ways over the next few weeks as we weather this storm together!
